Yunnan Trip – Jade Dragon Snow Mountain,

6th day in Yunnan, also 2nd day in Lijiang, our main trip is to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, a place that I most most most looking forward. Once I get up from bed, I quickly pull of the curtains to see if the rain stopped or not. Oh my god! Still raining! Means I couldn’t see the snow mountain certainly. Sad!

After breakfast, we get into our coach and heading to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. In the bus, I quickly make a temporary raincoat for my lens , otherwise can’t take photo in the rain.

Just a while, we had reach mid of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. From here, we need take the Green Bus (Environmental Bus) to cable car station and take cable car to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain consists of 13 peaks and their average altitude is more than 5,000 meters (about 16,404 feet). The distance from north to south of this incredible mountain is about 35 kilometers (about 22 miles) and the distance from east to west is about 20 kilometers (about 12 miles). There is snow all the year round on the top of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. From a distance it looks like a dragon flying among the clouds, hence its name ‘Jade Dragon Snow Mountain’. It is the soul of both Lijiang City and Naxi nationality.

The main peak of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is Shanzidou (the peak we visited) which looks like a brave and mighty warrior with beautiful armor. There is frozen ice on its top and thick forest in the middle of the mountain. However at the foot of the peak, people can enjoy the tender touch of spring almost every day throughout a year. In fact Shanzidou is still a virgin peak. Nobody has ever climbed to its top because of its steepness and that’s why it arouses so many people’s imagination.

It is really cold up here! With the drizzle somemore, getting more cold! So, I bought a hot sausage to warm up body!

Me and wife keep climbing up, until about 4600 meters from sea level, we have to come down due to time constraint.

We only stayed in the Yulong Snow Mountain is about an hour, because the mountains oxygen thin, it can not stay too long. Felt very sad because didn’t see the snow mountain.

    Again, beautiful photographs.

When my wife and I were there towards the end of February this year, it was snowing very heavily. All those places, shown in your photographs, were covered with snow.

    Best regards.
